Asha Bhosle known as "Ashaji" is a famous playback singer in Hindi films, . Ashaji started her career in 1943 and she has sung for six decades. Ashaji is about to sing songs in nearly 1,000 Bollywood movies. Apart from this, Asha also participated in many private albums and many Indian and foreign competitions. Ashaji is sister of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar.

There is a specialty in the voice of Asha that she has scattered the magic of her voice in classical music, qawwali, ghazal and pop music. In addition to Hindi, Ashaji has songs in other 20 Indian and foreign languages. Ashaji said in 2006 that she has sung 12,000 songs so far. In 2011 Guinness Book of World Records chose Ashaji to record the highest number of songs. Indian Government honored Ashaji with "Dada Saheb Phalke Award" in 2000 and "Padam Vibhushan" in 2008. In 2013, she made her debut as actress in film "Maai" and was praised for her role in the film. Asha Bhosale was born on September 8, 1933 in 'Sangli', in the house of Maratha society. Her father Dinanath Mangeshkar was an actor and classical singer. Asha was only 9 when her father died. Then her family moved from Pune to Kolhapur and then to Mumbai. Asha and her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar started acting and singing in films to help the family.

In 1943, she sang the song "Chala Chala Nav Bala" in her first Marathi movie 'Maza Bal' which was composed by Datta Dawajekar. In 1948, she sang for her first Hindi film 'Chunariya' song 'Saavan Aaya ...' for Hansraj Behl. She sang her first Hindi Solo song "Raat Ki Rani" in 1949.
