Sushmita Sen was born on November 19, 1975 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. She has adopted two daughters named Rani and Alisha and she is their single mother. In order to legalize the Rani as her own daughter, she had to fight in the court for a long time, and in 2000, Rani became her daughter. She adopted Alisha on January 13, 2010, when Alisha was only three months old.

After winning Miss Universe title Sushmita Sen started her carrer as an film actress. She made her film debut with the movie 'Dastak', which was released in 1996.

After that she had worked in the Tamil film "Ratchagan" in 1997. Two years later, she played the role of Rupali in David Dhawan's film "Biwi No.1" with Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor. For this film, she won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999. In 1999, the film was at number two in the highest grossing film at the box office.

That year she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Award for the film "Sirf Tum". In 2000, she also performed a song with Hrithik Roshan in the film 'Fija'.

Later in 2000, people praised her for the way she acted in 'Aakhe' with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aditya Pancholi and Paresh Rawal.

Her biggest superhit film till date was 'Mai Hoo Naa', released in 2004. In that film she worked with Shahrukh Khan. Later, Sushmita Sen had worked with Ajay Devgn as an advocate in the film 'Mai Aisa Hi Hoo'.

In 2005, She played the main character along with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the remake of the 'Cactus Flower' movie 'Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya' ? In 2010, Sushmita Sen appeared with Anil Kapoor in the comedy film 'No Problem'. In 2015, she worked for the first time in the Bengali film 'Nirbak'.
